Introduction

ThRoWS Ltd. is a dynamic startup Limited Liability company established in 2018 and formally registered in 2019 in Sekondi-Takoradi, Western Region. Our inception was in response to the pressing need for effective waste collection services and the absence of proper waste segregation practices in the target districts of our project, namely the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan and Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality.

Our vision is simple yet profound: we aspire to create a world where individuals are deeply concerned about and actively care for their environment. Our mission is equally clear - we aim to manage solid waste as a valuable resource, fostering sustainable, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective practices.

ThRoWS Ltd. is owned by three dedicated individuals and is guided by a board of five experienced members. Our day-to-day operations are expertly managed by a four-member team, all deeply committed to our mission.

Central to our business is the endeavor to transform attitudes towards the environment. We achieve this by educating our clients on the detrimental impact of indiscriminate waste disposal on our surroundings. We emphasize the importance of waste segregation, making it easy and even enjoyable for our clients by providing color-coded bins for different waste categories, including Plastics, Papers, Glasses, Metals, Organics, and other miscellaneous waste like textiles and e-waste.

Once collected, these materials are transported to our facility for further sorting. Non-recyclables are responsibly disposed of in landfill sites, while recyclables are supplied to respective recycling companies. Organic waste receives special attention, as we process it into valuable compost, animal feed, and even maggot production.

In our ongoing journey towards a cleaner, more sustainable future, ThRoWS has exciting plans on the horizon. We're actively developing an activity-based curriculum to educate school children about waste segregation and other environmental best practices. Additionally, we're harnessing technology to streamline collection services, subscription management, and behavior-changing programs, all while connecting clients to waste pickers for emergency pickups.

Our efforts have not gone unnoticed. We've received support from the SNV GrEEn Project, enabling us to acquire mini paper shredders and PET bottle baling machines. We're honored to be selected as one of GIZ's E-waste partner companies, and we've launched a pioneering project to prevent marine pollution by establishing plastic buy-back centers in coastal communities. This initiative, known as "Promoting Attitudinal Change and Waste Segregation in Coastal Communities," holds the promise of reducing open burning in schools and residences.
